Ancient Carboniferous Fossil Trees

: Stephenville

This protected fossil bed, located in Blanche Brook in the heart of Stephenville, is said to represent the world’s first seed-producing trees that grew on slopes; a significant event in the evolution of plants. The creek is usually dry enough to wade into for a closer look. Please only take photographs as souvenirs. The Bay St. George ‘Rocks’ Booklet identifies additional geological and fossil sites in the area.
